| 20 March 2009: Snap-on, the UK brand leader in diagnostic tools, software and information for the automotive market, has announced the introduction of a new MODIS package for the top-of-the-range product in its ‘family’ of hand-held diagnostics tools, to reflect the major shifts which have occurred recently in UK Aftermarket conditions (full MODIS product details as Editor’s Note).
The new MODIS LX offers all of the features of the existing MODIS – but comes with a modified lead kit that enables technicians to work on 2002 vehicles and beyond. This is being offered at a £1,000 - 20% - discount to the full MODIS price. This is being done intentionally to enable technicians to obtain access to the very best Snap-on hand-held diagnostic product immediately, but with the facility to add to the package later – as market conditions improve.
“With our UK team of over 430 franchisees working with garages throughout the country, we are able to keep a very close watch on market developments and changing technician needs,” says Max Christmas, Snap-on Tools UK Marketing & Product Manager. “As a result it has become increasingly clear to us that what the market urgently requires is a no-frills top-of-the-range hand-held diagnostic product now - but one that can be added to later.
“We have therefore created what we believe is the ideal package for today’s professional technician. With MODIS LX we are offering a substantial immediate cost reduction and are also including an extremely attractive reduction in the cost of the software subscriptions which Snap-on introduces twice yearly to ensure that our ‘family’ of diagnostic tools is always up to date.”
Editors’ Note: MODIS is a fast powerful and totally portable hand held diagnostic tool which is easy to use with a YES/NO guided menu. It has a 7” full colour high resolution screen with simple to follow icon driven programmes. It has an integral fast accurate four channel labscope, with the power to display the four waveforms individually or on-screen together.
MODIS has a vehicle specific database with help and information systems included. On board ports include VGA, serial, USB and infra-red bi-directional printer interface. It comes in a rugged case with flexible tactile controls for easy navigation through the systems.
MODIS is ideal for road testing as it has a digital record and playback facility with the ability to record technical data whilst driving the vehicle on the road. The recorded data can then be played back and analysed when in the workshop. A Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) and ignition scope are incorporated within MODIS. The comprehensive vehicle communication software combined with powerful measurement capabilities have created a unique portable diagnostic platform. A monthly subscription entitles the user to comprehensive software updates, delivered on an easy to install compact flash card.
